Colin Healy and the Jetskis

For a band made up of five kids who are fresh or a few years out of high school, Colin Healy and the Jetskis is already making their way into the hearts of music lovers across the nation. The guys: Colin Healy, Cullen Macdonald, Harrison Weber, Jon Norton, and Tony Cornicello, are originally from Richmond, Va. Th0ugh Weber, Healy, and Macdonald went to a high school that neighbored Norton and Cornicello’s school, the boys didn’t really know each other and even hated each other at one point. During their freshman year, Cornicello and Norton were far from being friendly and even call themselves rivals. However, once the guys met eachother, their music brought them together.

CHTJ, credits  Dashboard Confessional, Sigur Ros, and Nirvana as influences. At the same time, the band doesn’t classify themselves in one genre. “we all bring different genres into this one band; [it] really completes it and sets it to a genre all on it’s own,” Healy said in an interview with teen.com. When the guys first started as a band and tried to figure out what their name should be, they had a bit of trouble. But, soon Healy’s brother came to the rescue when he came up with the band name “The Jetskis.” Though Healy liked this name, the band decided together that they would be called, “Colin Healy and the Jetskis” to give the band a more old-timey feel that they didn’t feel many other bands had these days. The band’s debut album, “… or just don’t go” includes five songs including hits like “The One” and “Taste of Your Lips.”  The EP, “powerfully portrays the ins and outs of love and relationships, through the prism of restlessness and vigor,” said the band’s myspace. “there seems to be nothing rudderless about the band’s piano-driven, upbeat-but-heartbroken pop nuggets, maneuvering easily from Ben Folds-ish hooks to a youthful rocket, dropping anchor nowhere in between,” Ryan Muldon, of the Richmond Times Dispatch, said.

The bands lyrics and sound have a distinctness; they sound like something you might have heard before, but at the same time, they’re something completely new. Recently, the band released their first Christmas song, “Meet Me Under the Mistletoe,” which can be purchased on itunes. Though the band hasn’t been together for too long, they have already played with some pretty popular bands. So far, the band has shared the stage with bands like: Yearling, The Downtown Fiction, and even The Maine. The future looks bright for Colin Healy and the Jetskis. Hopefully, they’ll one day be able to play Warped Tour or their own headlining concert and show the world what they’ve got.
